Humpty Dumpty!! Rebuilt Antique Buffet using Milk Paint!

I so love working on antiques.

I have been looking for a piece so that I could use the most amazing

color of milk paint! It's actually the most gorgeous shade of turquoise that

I have seen and it comes from the Real Milk Paint Co. More on the color later!

The pics really don't do it justice. I used it on an earlier dresser I did here. 

Anyway. I digress.  So I spotted this piece on CL listed as a dresser.

It's actually a little buffet. They were asking way too much for it because half of it was 

in pieces! The owner said the drawer fell down the stairs. 

uh, yeah.  This is my humpty-dumpty piece. Read on! 

 Quite the mess, eh??! The right door was snapped off at the piece that attaches to the hinge.

Luckily the owner had all the pieces and I was able to sand, glue and clamp. You cant even tell

it was ever broken. Thankyouverymuch. 

The pic below is the middle drawer. All ten pieces of it.  Yikes! 

And here is Humpty all back together! 

 The mirror was in pretty poor shape. I used a stencil and some frosted glass spray to try and 

camouflage the defects. 

This wood took quite a bit of sanding. No way I could refinish it and have it look "good".

I love using milk paint over raw oak. It finishes so nicely!!

This shows the finished top with a coat of tung oil. The stuff is amazing at bringing out the 

warmth of the wood and the richness of the color. Real Milk Paint Co sells it as well. 

This color turquoise is actually listed under "Cobalt Blue". I have already advised them 

that cobalt is, well, cobalt! Not turquoise! Whatever. I know they had a man name their colors!

Anything beyond the 8-pack box of crayon colors and they're lost! 

 I highlighted a few spots w/some yellow chalk paint.

Wood glue is a wonderful thing. 

This is the right door. And yes, that black stuff is 100 years of grease and grime!

 This piece was completely snapped off. 

You can't even see a scar. Can you tell in the below pic???

So I used the pieces to put this drawer back together. I cut out new bottoms, as the originals were just
too far gone. Some glue, nails and finessing, got this drawer back in shape! It's strong too. Thats
the original middle space divider. I kept it because it had the grooves that the bottoms slid into.

 See what I mean about the tung oil enhancing the raw oak?? Love the chippiness on the paint!

 I kept the original hardware on the doors. I sprayed them to clean 'em up a bit.
