Master Platform bed from bamboo
So this was our first encounter with bamboo. I had been wanting a bed made out of bamboo. Something like this is almost impossible to find. And custom made stuff is astronomically priced. We're handy. So why not make one ourselves. So we did.
This is what we started with. Two 4X8 pieces of raw plyboo. This is solid bamboo. I got the carbonized. I played around with the staining process. It stains like wood. I used a mixture of dark shades and went to town. It was an extremely tedious process. Anyone who has stained and finished wood knows there's like 7 steps to the final stage. I ended up using a beeswax for the topcoat. Poly just didn't look right.
This is the platform. We used bamboo flooring in a darker color to frame the base of the doug fir wood.
Close up of the headboard. I just love the way this bamboo finished up.
This bed is soooooo sturdy. I'm afraid if we ever move, it's going to have to stay with the house! |
So of course we needed matching nightstands!!! When we cut the pieces, we made sure to keep the wood grain intact for each piece. That way they lined up when they were put together. |
All total we used 3 sheets of the plyboo which runs about 200-ish.
The quote I got to build the bed and nightstands came in over $3500.00....I'd say we did alright!!!
OUR HOME MADE DOG BED! (thank you CraftedNiche)!
THIS WAS ACTUALLY A TEST PIECE. A FRIEND WANTED
A DOG BED FOR HER BULLDOG, SO WE PLAYED AROUND
WITH THE STYLE AND SUCH.
Our pit, Judy, was kind enough to model the new bed for us. |
A little "bling" never hurt anyone! Those are real Swarovski crystals! Yes I know, a tad over the top, but, whatever! |
This is what it looked like in the raw state. I decided to stain the wood on the step to give it
some dimension.
I am also a movie blogger and I like your blog too much the colors and themes are really nice.
